Chess Lesson and Simultaneous Exhibition by US Chess Federation Executive Director, Bill Hall. A fundraising event to help send Utah's Kayden Troff to the World Youth Champs in Greece. Mr. Hall, a USCF expert-level player will take on a large number of people simultaneously. A great chess opportunity for kids and beginning adults.

How to Register: Register online. If you are mailing in your registration form, send it to Utah Summer Games Registration, 351 West University Blvd., Cedar City, UT 84720. Participants who wish to play in the US Chess Federation rated tournament (one of the two parallel events on Saturday) must show proof of current USCF membership. Sign up in advance at www.uschess.org and click on the Join/Renew option in the upper right-hand corner.

Registration Deadline: Final online registration is due by Saturday, June 5th. Onsite registration is one hour before event. Use Individual Registration Form. List Bughouse partner name, if known, under 'Additional Information' by event description.

Format: All tournaments are non-elimination events -- every participant plays every round. Half-point byes may be requested for any round, before the pairings for that round have been posted. The only exception is that last-round byes must be made in advance of the second round. The Quick Chess events on Saturday will have six rounds, with each round including two games against the same opponent, once with each color. The time control for each tournament is 15 minutes per player, with a 3-second delay on the clock for each move. The Chess960 (Fischer Random) tournament will be four rounds, with a time control of 25 minutes per player with a 3-second delay on the clock for each move. The Bughouse tournament will have many rounds, based on the number of teams that participate, with each round including at least two games against the same opponent. Teams can be formed in advance or individuals can choose teammates at the site. The time control for the Bughouse games is 5 minutes per player.

Rules: Rules for the conduct of players and moves of the pieces are according to the US Chess Federation (www.uschess.org). Chess clocks will be used in all games, and explained to new tournament players at the player’s meeting at the beginning of each tournament. Touch-move rule applies in all competitions. Special rules for Chess960 (Fischer Random) and Bughouse Chess according to rules found on Wikipedia. They will be posted at the tournament site, and questions will be answered at the players meeting in advance of each event.

Confirmation: Internet Registrations will immediately receive a confirmation e-mail. Mailed or delivered registrations can check at registration area before event.

Check-in: Athletes need to check in at the SUU Sorenson PE Building, 560 W University Blvd., Cedar City. Each athlete will receive a welcome packet containing the official Utah Summer Games Athlete shirt, valuable coupons and other assorted goodies. Registration will be open for check-in on Tuesday, June 8 from Noon until 7:00 PM and on Wednesday, June 9 at 9:00 AM

Refund Policy: NO REFUNDS will be given, including for medical withdrawals. If an event cannot be held due to inclement weather a voucher code may be issued to be used for another sport during the 2011 event or the same sport during the 2012 Utah Summer Games. Exceptions will be made only for the following: entries received after entry deadline; sports or competitions reaching maximum registration capacity; entries received after the maximum number of teams are bracketed or if there are not enough teams or individuals to form a division. Requests must be in writing by email to hutcheson@suu.edu and submitted no later than July 1, 2011. All team voucher requests must be submitted prior to schedules being issued.
