MANDATORY COACH’S MEETING:  A coach or team representative must attend the mandatory coach’s meeting prior to your team’s first game.  Meetings will be held on Thursday, June 24, 2010, at 9:00 AM, 10:00 AM, 11:00 AM, Noon, 2:00 PM, 4:00 PM & 6:00 PM in the SUU Sorenson PE Building, Room 101.  In addition, prior to the first game, every team must check-in at the Registration/Check-in area, hand in a completed roster with all waivers signed by each team member if over 18, or by parents or guardians if team member is under 18, including those who may not be present the first day.  Any team that has not checked in at the Registration/Check-in area AND attended the coach’s meeting will forfeit ALL games until these requirements are completed.  For these teams, there will be one make-up meeting on Friday, June 25, 2010, at 7:00 AM in the Sorenson PE Building, Room 101.

Registration Deadline: No teams will be added after Sunday, May 16, 2010.

All teams must have waivers signed by all team members if over 18 or by parents or guardians if under 18. No exceptions.

Team Size: 12 players maximum, plus one coach. (No roster additions after first game)

Age Division: Age is determined by age as of June 30, 2010.  Adults can play down.

Adult players may play down and may participate on more than one team (if in different divisions)

RULES:

1. Utah High School Activities Association rules, with some exceptions:

  • No dunking in the SUU PE building, SUU Multipurpose building, or the Paiute Gym.  Penalty will be two (2) technical fouls assessed to the offending player.
  • No hanging on the rims allowed.
  • Running clock for games with a 3rd quarter point difference of 30 or more and a 4th quarter difference of 20 points or more.  Clock will stop for shooting fouls and time outs.

2. Profanity can be assessed a technical foul and the “F” word is an automatic technical.

3. Physical contact with officials, USG personnel, or other players will warrant an automatic ejection from the game and a possible ejection from USG participation.

4. The USG appeal process is as follows:

  • The appeal must be made at the time of the occurrence of the alleged misconduct.
  • You may appeal the eligibility of a player, as outlined in # 5 below.
  • The following appeals will not be recognized:
    • No appeal as to the judgment of any official including timekeepers and scorers.
    • No one other than the head coach may appeal a contest.

5. Burdon of Proof” for adult player lies with the questioning team.  If no proof is presented, the player in question will remain eligible.

6. Player eligibility questions must be submitted by 8:00 AM on the last day of pool play to accommodate medal round scheduling. All other protests can be made up to and including the final game. If a player is found to be ineligible, the team will forfeit all games in which the player in question participated. Further, the ineligible player will be banned for 1 year from participation in USG Basketball.

7. NCAA players must submit written permission from their collegiate athletic director to participate.

8. No more than two active (current) NCAA players from the same college may participate on one team. This is a NCAA rule.

9. In Non-Collegiate Division, no college or professional experience is allowed. Teams will forfeit games if a collegiate/professional player participates. A letter of intent does not constitute classification of collegiate player if the individual has not yet started academic schooling. A collegiate player is one who is in a “Red Shirt” status or has been in a “Red Shirt” status or has been listed on a college roster (Division I, II, III, or JC). A professional player is any person receiving compensation to play basketball, to include traveling exhibition teams.

10. College division is for higher caliber players, for current college players, and for former college/professional players who do not meet the qualifications listed above.

11. All players must sign waiver prior to game play. If not signed the player is declared ineligible.

Common Rules: All teams should wear legal jerseys with numbers on front and back. Full uniforms with reversible jerseys (one side being white) are recommended.

EACH TEAM IS REQUIRED TO HAVE A SCORE KEEPER/TIMER AVAILABLE FOR EACH GAME. Summer Games provides scorers/timekeepers but a contingency is needed if the scheduled timer/scorekeeper fail to appear. This will help keep games on schedule.

Eligibility: The Utah Summer Games and State Games of the West is open to all State Games athletes from the following States: Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Hawaii, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, New Mexico, Oregon, Utah, Washington, and Wyoming. Athletes from these states are eligible by participating in their local State Games in 2008 regardless of their results or placement in one of the sports, or if a resident of the State of Utah or a resident of a neighboring state (Idaho, Nevada, or Wyoming) that does not currently hold an officially recognized State Games event, for at least 30 days prior to the first day of the competition they wish to enter. In addition, students who are enrolled in a Utah college or university are eligible, as are U.S. military personnel and their family members who are stationed in Utah. The State Games of the West have been organized in accordance with NCAA guidelines with some exceptions. Athletes who have eligibility questions should check with their school athletic administrator or coach. Any athlete with scholastic or collegiate eligibility remaining must comply with rules governing his or her scholastic or collegiate eligibility.

Confirmation: Internet Registrations will immediately receive a confirmation e-mail. Mailed or delivered registrations can check at registration area before event.

Check-In: Athletes need to check in at the SUU Sorenson PE Building, 560 W University Blvd., Cedar City. Each athlete will receive a welcome packet containing the official Utah Summer Games Athlete shirt, valuable coupons and other assorted goodies. Registration will be open on the following days:

Refund Policy: NO REFUNDS will be given including for medical withdrawals. If an event cannot be held due to inclement weather a voucher code may be issued to be used for another sport during the 2010 event or the same sport during the 2011 Utah Summer Games. Exceptions will be made only for the following: entries received after entry deadline; sports or competitions reaching maximum registration capacity; entries received after the maximum number of teams are bracketed or if there are not enough teams or individuals to form a division.
