2005 - Road Races
Six event records were set, including four new standards in the women’s competition, at the 20th-Anniversary Utah Summer Games 5-kilometer road race at the Cedar Canyon Riverwalk.
Logan’s Carol Johnson posted a new USG record in the women’s 60-64 division by covering the course in 24:30.1, followed by Kanab’s Elizabeth Button breaking the Clydesdale 39-under division mark with a time of 32:02.7. Meanwhile two other women’s records were established, including the women’s 65-69 division in which Cedar City’s Ruth Sluder crossed the line in 33:14.7 and St. George’s Dorothy Hutson posted a new clydedale 40-over division standard at 37:38.1.
In the men’s competition, Washington’s Alan Martin broke the USG record in the 45-49 division with a 16:41 to place third-overall and first in his division, while Central’s Emmett Smith shattered the 65-69 division record with a time of 19:45.4.
Overall, Toquerville’s Jeremy Jones won the men’s race with a time of 15:40.7, while Cedar City’s Christine Welsh notched a road-race sweep as she took home top honors in the women’s race at 18:13.1. Welsh also won the women’s overall title in the 10K race in record-breaking fashion.

Central’s Emmett Smith broke the men’s 65-69 division record in covering the course in 40:46.5, while St. George’s Christopher Weidman shattered the men’s Clydesdale 40-over division mark with a 39:07.1. The women’s competition featured three records on the day, including Cedar City’s Christine Welsh, who was the women’s overall champion with a time of 38:07.2. Meanwhile Logan’s Carol Johnson re-set the 60-64 division standard at 50:43 and St. George’s Wendy Clymore established the Clydesdale 39-under division record with a 53:44.
St. George’s Steven Wallenfels was the men’s overall winner, crossing the finish line at 32:24.5.
