2007 Medal Winners Invited to State Games of America
Monday, July 9, 2007
For many Utah Summer Games athletes, the "Gold Rush" experienced at the event held in Cedar City, Utah, need not be over. In Colorado Springs, Colorado, the State Games of America will take place. Usually the event is reserved for 2005 or 2006 medal winners, but this year, the invitation will be expanded to include those that took home medals, of any color, from the 2007 Utah Summer Games as well.
"This is pretty exciting news, especially for teams who may not have the same team members in 2009," said Kyle M Case, Utah Summer Games Director. "It's a great opportunity for those who excelled this year to test their skills against athletes on a national level."
The State Games of America (SGA) is the premier, national multi-sport event for athletes of all ages and abilities held every biennium. Medal winners from State Games nationwide earn the right to compete against other winners and match their skills and competitive desire in a national arena.
"We'd love to welcome the 2007 medal winners from the Utah Summer Games," said Doug Martin, State Games of America Executive Director. "Registration si still open for many of the sports. It's a great chance for athletes to see how they stack up against their peers from around the nation."
Online registeration is available for the State Games of America on their website.
The State Games concept was developed in New York in 1978 with the Empire State Games. In 2006, more than 500,000 athletes competed in State Games nationwide. State Games feature various sports of the Olympic and Pan American Games as well as sports that have regional popularity within each state.
The Utah Summer Games is Utah's oldest and largest Olympic-style sports festival for athletes of all ages and skill levels and offered over 50 different sports including Table Tennis, Racquetball and Pickle Ball.
