Utah Summer Games Opening Ceremonies Set to be Record Breaking

Wednesday, May 16, 2007

Utah Summer Games athletes are no strangers to broken records. For more than two decades, athletes have set and broken state, national and even world records in various sporting events. This year, at the 22nd annual Opening Ceremonies, everyone present that evening will have a chance to go down in the record book, the Guinness Book of World Records (TM) that is.

"This is going to be a great Opening Ceremonies this year. You definitely won't want to miss it." says Kyle M Case, Utah Summer Games Director. "We've got a great show lined up and we're going to try to break two Guinness World Records(TM)."

The Games has received approval from Guinness World Records(TM) to make two record attempts during the June 14, 2007, event being held in the Eccles coliseum on the campus of Southern Utah University. The gates open at 6:00 PM and the show begins at 8:30 PM.

"Both records involve mass participation, so it's important that we have the stands full that night,' said Case. "We're going to go for the record for the most people wearing balloon hats and we're going to try to have the largest game of "Simon Says" ever played on planet Earth."

In addition to the world record attempts the show will feature Capitol Records Recording star, Ryan Shupe and the Rubber Band, an Olympic-style parade of athletes and cauldron lighting ceremony along with a tremendous fireworks display to cap off the evening.

Tickets are on sale now for the Utah Summer Games Opening Ceremonies and can be purchased at any Smith's Tix outlet, by phoning 1-800-888-TIXX or by visiting www.smithstix.com. Athletes wearing the official Utah Summer Games Athlete T-Shirt and marching in the Parade of Athletes will receive free admission. For everyone else, tickets start at $7.00 for general admission.

The Utah Summer Games is Utah's oldest amateur sports festival and offers over 50 different sporting events, including Archery, Basketball and Wrestling.
