For Kameron Peterson participating in the Utah Summer Games is not just a fun summer activity; it has become a tradition.
At the age of 15 Peterson has already come down from Monroe, Utah, for five years in a row to play Soccer in the the Utah Summer Games and has won three bronze medals in the process!
Not only does Kameron like to challenge himself on the soccer field but he also excels in other areas.
"Kameron does well academically (with a 3.8 g.p.a.), he plays tennis and football on the South Sevier High School teams and helps on his grandpa's farm," said Byron Peterson, Kameron's dad.
His father has been Kameron's soccer coach and has brought his team to the Utah Summer Games all five years. He was also pivitol in getting soccer sanctioned at South Sevier High.
Kameron started playing soccer at the young age of five and said he liked it a lot so it has stuck for ten years and is still going strong.
When asked about some of his favorite Utah Summer Games memories Peterson said, "I like getting the medals and playing in the pool at the hotel with my friends ... oh wait ... Opening Ceremonies is the best!"
This year Opening Ceremonies will be held on June 14, 2007 at 8:30 PM in the Eccles Coliseum on the campus of Southern Utah University. Kameron is excited to be part of breaking two Guinness World Records (TM), along with the rest of the crowd, during the Opening Ceremonies.
Peterson was also interested to hear that tennis is one of the many sports offered at the Utah Summer Games. And with over 54 sports, ranging from arm wrestling to track and field happening during the sports extravaganza from June 7 - 24, 2007, there is something for every type of athlete.
