Utah Summer Games Welcomes One-Hundredth Athlete: Debbie Lamb

Friday, February 23, 2007

It's the number of tiles in a standard Scrabble set. It's the operator telephone number in the United Kingdom. It's the number of years in a century. One Hundred. And Debbie Lamb, 32, is registered as the one-hundredth athlete for the 2007 Utah Summer Games.

Lamb, from Orem, will compete in the Triathlon event along with two other relay team members, Amanda Martinez and Michael Hopkinson. This year's Games will be a first for the three athletes. Lamb, Martinez and Hopkinson are employed with American Family Insurance in Orem.

Not only is this the first Utah Summer Games for Lamb, but it is also the first major competitive sporting event for her as well. She wants to compete in the Games for as long as she can.

"I have several friends that have participated in the (Utah Summer Games) before, and they love it," Lamb said.

Lamb plans to start a consistent schedule of training in March to prepare for the Games in June.

"I do try to hit the gym at least a couple of times a week. I am going to try and get on a schedule next month that will better help me become prepared for June," Lamb said.

Participating in the Games will help fulfill one of Lamb's life goals. "(I want) to enjoy (life) to the fullest," Lamb said.

Lamb will also implement her life motto at the Games. "You can do anything you put your mind and heart into," Lamb said.

The Utah Summer Games is Utah's oldest and largest Olympic-style sports festival. The Games offer over 50 different events including Archery, Cowboy Action Shooting and new this year, Badminton.
