Collin Raye to Headline Utah Summer Games 20th Anniversary Opening Ceremonies

Thursday, April 21, 2005

As one of country music’s most prolific and profound hitmakers, Collin Raye has always taken great pains to instill his music with a prevailing, often compelling message of hope, triumph, tragedy, celebration and more. On June 16, 2005, Raye will bring that passion for music to Cedar City at the 20th Anniversary Utah Summer Games Opening Ceremonies.

“Collin is one of the biggest acts we’ve ever had for Opening Ceremonies,” said Mindy Benson, Opening Ceremonies coordinator for the Utah Summer Games. “He puts on a great show and will be a perfect match for our audience.”

Collin Raye’s ability to put forth the emotion of whatever he’s singing has been the cornerstone of an amazing career. In an astonishingly short period of time, the singer has chalked up ten #1 singes and has entered the record books as one of only eight artists in the history of country music to have their first four albums obtain platinum status.

With a hit parade of classic country songs such as “Love Me,” “In This Life,” “That Was A River,” “Little Rock,” “I Can Still Feel You,” and “I Think About You,” Raye has established himself as not only a master vocalist but a peerless interpreter of song.

The theme, to mark the 20th anniversary of the Utah Summer Games, will be Back to the Future.

“We’ll be revisiting some of the most significant events of the past two decades,” said Kyle Case, Utah Summer Games Director. “It really puts things in perspective when you consider that when the Games started in 1986, the Berlin Wall was still standing.”

Case said the Opening Ceremonies will have many of the classic elements that have become tradition for the Utah Summer Games including the March of Athletes, the Utah Jazz Bear and an amazing fireworks show.

“This will be a show that you definitely won’t want to miss,” said Case.

Tickets are available for sale and start at $7.00 for general admission with family packages available. To purchase tickets, call the SUU Centrum Ticket Office at (435) 586-7872.
