Tuesday, September 14, 2004
When you put together an event the size of the Utah Summer Games, it takes a while to pull everything together and tie up the loose ends. Well, it appears that most of the loose ends are bound in neat bows and the Utah Summer Games is ready to account.
“2004 was a great year for us,” said Kyle M Case, Utah Summer Games Director. “We had a great variety of sports and increased participation as well. We're growing and that's exciting.”
The final tabulation for the 2004 event showed a total of 7486 athletes, a 10% increase over 2003. Sports experiencing the biggest increase were Sculling and Shooting, both doubled participants, and Power Tumbling increased by 51%.
By now most have heard that Soccer, the largest single event in the Utah Summer Games set a new record with 191 teams and 3038 athletes. Basketball also experienced an overall increase with 93 teams participating.
